WHO WE ARE
Shelter House, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention, safe housing and supportive services to homeless families and victims of domestic violence in our community. Our organization was formed in 1981, when several ecumenical groups came together to better serve Fairfax County's low-income population. Shelter House's administrative office is located in Reston, Virginia while operating three shelters in Fairfax County. Shelter House has been operating the Patrick Henry Family Shelter in Falls Church since 1985. In 2007, Shelter House was awarded Fairfax County's contract to operate the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax. In 2010, Shelter House became the first non-profit to operate Artemis House, Fairfax County's only 24-hour Domestic Violence Shelter.
WHY WE SERVE
"Because of Shelter House, I didn't give up. You helped me to keep going and see that there is a light out there for me and my children's lives. You have changed our lives for the better."
"It's hard for me to imagine where I would be if I wasn't given protection, housing, food, therapy, and legal help or if I didn't have you to guide me through the scariest time of my life."
"With every obstacle I face, I still feel like I will succeed. It's the support I received at Shelter House that continues to give me strength."
